VVVNDExGALL - Collaborative Session (2016)

Artist: VVVNDExGALL
Album: Collaborative Session
Genre: Noise, Sludge,
Powerviolence, Drone
Year: 2016
For Fans Of: Primitive Man, Corrupted,
Man Is the Bastard, Full Of Hell
Bastard Noise

GALL and VVVNDE hold a very dear and near place in my heart, not because members in both bands are my friends, but because the sheer and raw anger created by both bands from their split from back in march was something to truly behold, both the GALL and VVVNDE sides are heavy, droney and animalistic. However this isnt that, this is both bands coming together to put forth SLUDGE and DRONEVIOLENCE together in a marriage beyond that of the split. This monstrous 19 minute collaboration set is enourmous, with giant walls of droney guitars and slow brooding drums creating an ambience that disorients the listener, only to break that ambience with bursts of blasts beats and massive feedback guitars and noise, over that is the Shouty vocals of GALL with the occasional Shriek of VVVNDE,  taking breaks from the drums to allow the feedback to grow in size and also use that chance to bring the harshnoise into the mix, something straight out of Man Is The Bastard, bringing the outbursts back into play only to break these outbursts with a small sludgey intrumental, ending it off with a monolithic noisey finish, all in all this is a giant collab with dual shrieking vocals, feedback heavy/noisey guitars and killer drumming.

VARUM - HER CELESTIAL FUNERAL (2016)

Artist: VARUM
Album: HER CELESTIAL FUNERAL
Genre: Electronic, DSBM,
Dark Pop, Dark Rock
Year: 2016
For Fans Of: Sun Devoured Earth, Planning for a Burial,
Dead Husband

VARUM's previous releases have been mainly DSBM and Atmospheric Black metal with touches of Doom metal instrumentation, however with HER CELESTIAL FUNERAL, VARUM makes use of much different sounds. Heavily relying on electronic and pop music and combining those sounds with the dreary soundscapes and song arrangements of DSBM and Atmospheric Black Metal. Making use of dark synths and electronic drums to further build on top of the DSBM giving life to a different being altogether, along with these dreary and droney arrangements comes the howling shrieks which really hits the nail on the head emphasizing the pain mustered up by VARUM.
Three tracks make up this beautiful EP, all having a similar melody, however its this same melody that makes everything about this EP a beautiful release.

Lord Sun - Suncatcher (2016)

Artist: Lord Sun
Album: Suncatcher
Genre: Drone, Shoegaze,
Post-metal, Ambient Rock
Year: 2016
For Fans Of: Jesu, Boris, Lantlos, Ringo Deathstarr, Cult of Luna

Suncatcher is the debut release of the duo that goes under the name of Crescent Days, however for this release they under go a different name, accompanying the different name is a different sound.
Suncatcher relies heavily on the use of delay and reverb pedals to create layers of harmonious guitar walls, creating layers upon layers of droney shoegaze riffs to create the atmosphere akin to the intensity of a heatwave during a bright summers day, accompanied with droney vocals on tracks such as Defeated By Sunlight and Bathing in the Poisonous Sun breeze, the approach of tracks such as Suncatcher and Spectre rely on a much more Post-metal and Shoegaze approach, hitting with midpaced riffs drenched in the delay to create a miasma of splendor, along with drums and the same droney vocals, however the droney singing is also accompanied with post-metal screams to fully bring these songs to life. The ambience created with Suncatcher is one where the listener should sit and enjoy as a whole, as it works greater as an entire album, however that is not to say that these songs arent solid when listened apart.
